oh. hai.

Yeah, so. I know I haven’t been writing for a while. Sorry about that. I totally meant to start the first, but you know how that goes. Other stuff got in the way. But I’m back. Sorta. In a way. I guess.

You know, let’s not dwell on my future status. Let’s focus on the here and now. You see, I live^sd in the District of Columbia. And, as you may or may not know I work retail. Most of the time this is irrelevant. The latter thing. Though, actually, I’m guessing it might start coming up more around here. Just a hunch. 

We’re getting off topic. On January 1st, the District decided to charge $.05 cents a bag. This is not new news. We knew this was coming for a while.

Ok. Let me rephrase that. Anyone who believe they should have any idea or inkling of what’s going on in the area where they live, in this case being the District, Southern Maryland and Northern Virginia area, knew that the bag tax was coming. Hell, I just searched “bag tax” in gReader^sd2 and the first post came up on May 18th before I got sick of scrolling.

The first post with an actual date of when the bag tax would be imposed was July 13th.

Now, I’m no mathematician. Nor am I very smart. But I think that a tax, that you had about 6 months notice for, you’d think that people would be prepared for it.

Ok. Prepared is a bad word. Less antagonistic is probably better. Because, seriously, you should have known this was coming. And, you know, even if you didn’t. You shouldn’t really blame the people working at the store. Or, you know, Mayor Fenty. Actually, I’m not sure who  she was talking about when she said “Someone must be smoking crack again”^sd3, but that is bleeding into my point.

The point is, however you feel about it. However much you hate it, the very, absolutely last person that you should yell at is the store. I mean, seriously. we aren’t the ones getting any kind of benefit from the tax that you knew about 6 months ago. SO FOR ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY IN THIS GODFORSAKEN WORLD DO NOT YELL AT ME THE BAG TAX BECAUSE I DON’T GIVE TWO SHITS AND/OR A GODDAMN ABOUT HOW YOU BELIEVE THAT IT IS AN INJUSTICE TO PAY $.05 FOR A BAG BUT YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM PAYING $10 FOR COOKIES.

Sorry about that. But it’s true. Most people who complain about the bag tax are asshats^sd4. Mostly because of the above reason.  Seriously, if $.05 is that big of a deal, then bring your own bag.
